New representative and new team in Portugal

IKAS President Mr. Vadatursky had a trip to Portugal. He was invited by Silvia, the wife of late Nuno Ferreira and Jose Fortes, Nuno’s best friend. On the day of his arrival in Lisbon, Jose Fortes met the IKAS President at the airport, and from the very first moment extended warm hospitality and care. After the airport they had dinner arranged by Mr. Jose Fortes. At dinner they got to know each other better in an unrestrained atmosphere. They had a discourse on kickboxing, plans of the new team and IKAS development in Portugal. Of course they could not help recalling Nuno. After the dinner, Mr. Jose brought the president to a luxurious hotel. They needed some sleep because next day they had a journey to the city of Albufera where Mr. Vadatursky was to meet the new team which was ready to continue the business initiated by Nuno. Next morning Jose picked up the IKAS president, and in several hours they were in a resort city where they met Mr. Jose Rodrigues and Florin Vintilia, the old friends who are completely bound up in each other. After long negotiations, they found a great many of new ways of IKAS development in Portugal next year. Mr. Jose and his team presented a detailed plan and schedule on overwhelming IKAS tournaments in Portugal which had us believe that they are very serious people and have an eager desire to develop kickboxing. Mr. Jose showed Mr. Vadatursky around the city and showed him a big square where all great shows are organized in summer. It is a really amazing square with a very beautiful architecture. On this very square Mr. Jose and his team plan to put up a great fight. IKAS, Mr. Jose and Silvia, Nuno’s wife made terms and agreed on a fight in the memory of Nuno Ferreira next year. Best Portuguese kickboxers as well as the world strongest fighters will be invited to this show. Mr. Oleg Vadatursky asked Mr. Jose to show him the place of Nuno’s tragic death. It was painful and hard for everyone, especially for Nuno’s wife Silvia who met them in the home city. It was so hard because everyone had to endure it once again, it was especially painful for Jose and Silvia to come to that place. Everyone said a good word and did homage to Nuno by a minute of silence. After that Mr. Jose had to go to Lisbon while old friend Mr. Jose Rogrigues took care of Mr. Vadatursky and let him stay in his house on the Atlantic shore. We’d like to thank these people on behalf of the IKAS leadership. In two days the IKAS President had to fly further and Mr. Rodrigues brought Mr. Vadatursky to the Lisbon airport. The journey and the negotiations were conducted in a friendly fashion. So the old team and the new president have very serious intentions.

Official meeting in Holland

After the trip in Portugal, Mr. Vadatursky traveled to Holland. Clyde Petres and Orlando Gemehrts met him at the airport. There is a great number of strong talented fighters in Holland. Mr. Ernesto Hoost, many time champion and four time K-1 heavyweight champion, joined the discussion with Clyde and Orlando. On the first days of talks, Mr. Hoost and Mr. Vadatursky discussed problems of today’s kickboxing and reflected to make it the strong number 1 sport in the world. Wide experience Mr. Hoost has gained over his years in the ring is used by many young fighters. Mr. Hoost agreed to attend most of IKAS tournaments in 2005. He is really the greatest fighter and simple in terms of communication. He understands that today we need many single-minded people and fighters to make kickboxing strong, popular and spectacular sport. We need much more television exposure. Another positive fact is that many beginner kickboxers try to imitate Mr. Hoost. He is a real professional who did much for kickboxing in his country and worldwide. IKAS now has a new representative in Holland – Mr. Ivan Hyppolite. He has his own gym with many famous fighters in it. Ivan is an undisputed champion in all federations of the world and he is a star for real. In the process of this dialogue they came to an agreement regarding IKAS development in Holland. Mr. Hyppolite presented a serious plan on how to develop IKAS in Holland in the forthcoming 2005. IKAS is ready to help and support him by all possible means to arrange great shows in Holland. It’s very important that Mr. Ivan Hyppolite is ready to put up a rematch for Mr. Akan Busurmanov who arranged the European title fight for Clyde Petres who lost this tough bout against Rustam Parmanov. This fight is scheduled for March 2005 in Holland. It will be a very interesting fight and maybe we will see a change of the active champion because the Dutch party has very serious intentions. It all says that they understand how to develop kickboxing right, and how to make right decisions to arrange return fights for strongest fighters. After the talks, they signed agreements on IKAS representation in Holland placed on Mr. Hyppolite, a real kickboxing legend. IKAS leadership thanks Clyde, Orlando, and Mr. Hoost for warm hospitality and care during Mr. Vadatursky’s stay in Holland. We see that in the Dutch kickboxing there is a new ambitious team that works to prove itself as a serous promoter and organizer.

15/10/04 IKAS event

IKAS World (Light heavyweight/Low kick) and European (Welterweight/Muay Thai) title fights in Kazakhstan have been staged. This event was of great interest amongst kickboxing fans throughout the world. Not so often best stars of the world kickboxing hit the road to Kazakhstan to show and attest their class. We all know that IKAS World and European belts are covered with gold and contain other precious materials. This arouses a great interests and gives motive to sportsmen who want to fight and win. However, not all of them are entitled to do so. At this show, all fighters were real stars. The star turn of the show was the World title with Maurepaz Auguste from the USA who holds a WKO title and a national American title vs. Nurlan Elemesov, Pro Champion of Kazakhstan. The other pair was Clyde Petres, European Champion from Holland vs. Rustam Parmanov. Rustam is a two-time amateur champion. Note that it was their time to head up the world kickboxing and Thai-boxing ranking.
Concerning the organization of the show, it was entrusted with IKAS official representative in Kazakhstan Mr. Akan Busurmanov. Two days prior to the fight date, the Air Astana Company canceled the booking for all overseas participants. This fact shocked both the organizers and the IKAS leadership. The event was under threat of failure. IKAS president Oleg Vadatursky got to know about this problem when he was already in Moscow. He started a wave of phone calls with Mr. Busurmanov and IKAS HQ in London. After 3 hours negotiations an optimal decision was made. The fighters needed time for rest and a new flight. Peter Kaljevic from the USA, Maurepaz’s corner man, helped much. He appeased all fighters and trainer and said that the IKAS HQ and the official representatives did all for them not to feel tired. Fighters from the USA and Holland had a profound respect for all the organizers and they did not run out of patience. We thank them all. Later their flight was delayed for another 24 hours. IKAS financial director Svetlana Churm met the fighters in London and helped them solve the financial issue so that they could purchase more expensive tickets with another Air Company. Certainly, the whole procedure was accompanied by Mr. Busurmanov who recompensed for all the expenses after IKAS president came to the fight venue. Since the fighter had no direct flight they were exhausted and need time to recover. It was less than one day prior to the fights. IKAS leadership and chief supervisor Mr. Oleg Deryabin and the fighters arrived late in the evening. Next day on October 15 at 12 pm there was a press conference with the Kazakhstan mass media. IKAS leadership answered all questions of journalists: why this country and this particular city was chosen, etc. Note that Kazakhstan is very popular with kickboxing mostly owing to Mr. Busurmanov, a very good organizer and a big fan of kickboxing. He does much to develop and promote kickboxing in his country. His hard work brought fruit and we all witnessed a high-level show. This fact was backed by all participants of the show. All 3000 seats in the Ice Palace where the show took place were occupied. IKAS promotion team and official representatives do a great job in their countries to make kickboxing even more popular. Not every world federation can afford something like this. Sometimes there are fights with only 300 viewers. Our team always gathers 3,000-5000 in any country. IKAS vice president Oleg Deryabin has arranged many shows in Russia and the halls were always full. In the evening, Mr. Deryabin conducted a judges’ meeting. Two hours prior to the fights, judges discussed the rules once again.

The first bout was a pro national title fight (7 rounds). We saw the strongest Kazakhstan fighting school.

The second bout was the European title fight (Thai boxing), Clyde Petres and Rustam Parmanov, a talented Kazakhstan fighter, came out in the ring. It was a hard 5 round pro bout where we saw the whole arsenal of kicks. The Kazakhstan fighter used a jumping technique, while Clyde adhered to low kicks, clinches and punches. In this tough fight, judges could not give the victory to anyone. In the eyes of IKAS President Oleg Vadatursky the fighters were equal. However, there are official rules, certified and licensed judges and supervisor Mr. Oleg Deryabin. People were nervous, time stopped as the leader of the show counted the scoring. And what we see – the Kazakhstan fighter won with just a 1 point disparity and the champion’s belt remains in Kazakhstan. Clyde and Orlando were disappointed. By the way, Orlando Gemerts also coaches the best fighter of all times Ernesto Hoost. After this fight, IKAS president entered the changing room to talk to Clyde and express his opinion: in his opinion, as this title was vacant none of them deserved this title, but judges made the other decision. Clyde agreed and said they would make a rematch in Holland and then take the belt to Holland. Orlando was in the corner and he agreed too. The real European Champion has to be stronger which is why we need a rematch to make it clear. Orlando and Clyde promised to take belt in Holland. Clyde demonstrated excellent kickboxing and attested the Holland school; he is a very fast fighter. Maybe long flights took his energy and he was really washed out. The Kazakhstan fighter Rustam Parmanov showed an excellent Kazakhstan muay thai school. But he has to prove that again in Holland and stand up for this belt as his coaches assured us that Clyde would lose even in Holland because Parmanov was best. The rematch in Holland will show whether to change the king on the throne and leave him.

The 3rd fight was a pro low kick bout which was rather dynamic.

The highlight of the performance was IKAS Pro World Title fight - Maurepaz Auguste vs. Nurlan Elemesov. Everyone expected a hard bout America vs. Kazakhstan. The American champion Maurepaz came to prove that he is number 1 ready to take the belt to the USA. His opponent Nurlan Elemesov is a young ambitious fighter from Kazakhstan. We all expected something special but later we were disappointed when in the 1st found Nurlan punched Maurepaz and made him sit down on the floor, and in the end Elemesov’s right low kick inside Maurepaz’s leg brought a second knock down. The referee counted... In the second round, Maurepaz tired to evince an opposition but was calmed down by a series of fast punches. In the 3rd round a series of right and left punches and a low kick end the fight. It is a KO. People was a bit disappointed because everyone expected something like the European title. Experts say that Nurlan Elmesov will be on the throne for a long time and he is unlikely to lose his World Champion’s belt. Of course, we may now find reasons why it ended up this way and the class of a fighter is proved by the action in the ring but not by words. Maurepaz’s coach Peter Kaljevic was upset but it is a professional sports. Once you are a champion you will have to prove it over and over again. After the fight there was a luxurious banquet with the Kazakhstan traditional dishes. The sportsmen appreciate the Kazakhstan good treatment and hospitality. After that, there was a party so that fighters could have some rest before come back home.

Rematch for 18/11/04

On 18 November, 2004 there will be a professional kickboxing title fight at 69.5 kg division. It will be the first professional full contact fight. The organizer of the show is Mr. Darvishi, IKAS official representative in Iran and the Middle East. He is a legend of the Iranian kickboxing. He was the first to bring karate and kickboxing to Iran. Owing to his aspiration to develop professional kickboxing in Iran, kickboxing fans will see an overwhelming show with two strongest fighters in it. Not so long ago Kabylbek Sadyrbayev and IKAS official representative in Kazakhstan Akan Busurmanov invited the Iranian party to conquer the Asian title. However, due to technical problems connected with visas, the Iranian party failed to come and participate in this full contact bout. There were rumors that the Iranian fighter simply refused to fight and many fans discussed it fervently on the internet. This challenge brightly illustrates that the Iranian fighter is ready to take the Asian title that is attained by the active champion Kabylbek Sadyrbayev. Up to date IKAS headquarters discussed the purse for this fight and made a unanimous decision. All technical things connected with flights and other arrangements are being worked out now. Note that Mr. Darvishi and his team have done much to organize this show in Iran. We'd like to inform all kickboxing fans that irrespective of the outcome of the show, Mr. Busurmanov will arrange a return fight in Kazakhstan which makes this bout even more interesting and challenging. We think that the Iranian fighter has now to prove that professional kickboxers are the strongest in the Middle East and Asian region. That is why these claims have to be supported by the results. We suppose that Mr. Darvishi will not draw the line at this show and we will see many other International, Asian and World professional kickboxing fights. The chief supervisor for this fight is IKAS vice president and two time world kickboxing champion Oleg Deryabin. That is why the judicial system will be the best. He will lead a judges' seminar to qualify all judges assigned to this title fight.

25/09/04 Nuno Ferreira tragic death

Nuno Ferreira died tragically on Saturday. This news shocked everybody who knew and who heard about Nuno. It is a ridiculous error because Nuno loved life. He was a kind, cheerful and a very good man. He brought kindness to people and he hated injustice in all of its forms. It is a big irrecoverable loss to all of us. We cannot believe that this happened. Nuno did much for kickboxing in his country and worldwide. He strived for making kickboxing a strong and overwhelming sport. He was busy all the time but he always had time to call and say ‘hi'. He took care of people he worked with and responded to any requests. IKAS leadership, sportsmen and friends express condolences to Nuno's family and relatives who lost him as a son, a brother, a husband and a friend. We grieve for Nuno but the grief cannot fill this gap. He will forever stay in our hearts as the man who achieved much in his years, he was a World and a European Kickboxing Champion. He was a good organizer, a strong leader and just a very good man.

I knew Nuno personally. He was not just my partner but he was also my friend. Nuno always told the truth no matter how bitter it was. He was a big cheery-fellow. I cannot express what I feel. We were tied not just by business but also by friendly relations. It's hard and painful to realize that the man with whom you were on friendly terms left for good. Let all of his relatives have power to endure this misery. I grieve with you.

Upcoming events

First ever IKAS World and European title fights will take place in Kazakhstan this October 15th. The professional kickboxing in Kazakhstan is presented by IKAS Kazakhstan representative Akan Busurmanov. This championship is of great interest since it combines there different world kickboxing styles. Professional World Champion Auguste Maurepaz (USA) will come to this show. He represents an American style. Clyde Petres, Professional Muay-thai Champion, represents a Holland muay-thai boxing. Their opponents are from the Asian kickboxing training school - fighters from Kazakhstan. All of these styles are rather interesting. Each is known for aggressive attacks in the ring. All of the fighters have high technical skills both muay-thai and kickboxing. Note that kickboxing is popular with these countries. Holland, for example, takes the first place broadcasting TV shows of great fights. These bouts will be overwhelming, and it is hard to say who is going to win since kickboxing is unpredictable. Everything may be resolved in the last round. IKAS official representative in Kazakhstan Akan Busurmanov does a lot to develop kickboxing in his country. This show sanctioned by IKAS is a bright instance. The show will take place in a great Palace of Sport. All guests will see an interesting and breathtaking show with the world sportsmen in it.

New IKAS members

Many countries are trying to develop and promote professional kickboxing. One of IKAS leaders Mr. Darvishi, IKAS official representative in Iran and the Middle East, was invited to the United Arab Emirates to discuss the establishment of a representative office in the UAE. Owing to his great experience in the world of kickboxing, Mr. Darvishi maintained successful negotiations with Mr. Bayyazi. Now we see that one more person, Mr. Bayyazi, joined the IKAS team. He will promote kickboxing in the UAE. It is a new great agency in the UAE which of great interest among kickboxing fans. Thus we may see new kickboxing styles in the UAE. On the picture: Iranian correspondent Mr. Behnam Nikpayam, IKAS new representative in the UAE Mr. Ahmad Bayazzi, Chairman of Martial Arts at the Iranian Club, President of a new Kung Fu Organization and IKAS Promoter in the UAE Mr. Gholam Reza Abyazi, IKAS representative in Iran and Middle East IPKBA Founder and President Mr. Yousefali Darvishi, and the Vice President Mr. Esrafil Vahabzadeh.

IKAS has started a new representative office in Malaysia. We are pleased to have Mr. Zulkifli Zainal Abidin as an IKAS leader who does a great job developing kickboxing in Malaysia. You may witness the first results of his work in December. It is great that IKAS kickboxing is promoted not only in Europe but worldwide. We hope that the new members in the UAE and Malaysia will prove themselves as great professionals. In its turn IKAS will help and support the new representatives in developing kickboxing in their countries. IKAS leadership congratulates Mr. Bayyazi and Mr. Zulkifli Zainal Abidin on joining the IKAS team. We wish them a great success organizing new kickboxing events!

IKAS signs a deal with TopHill

On June 20th, IKAS President Mr. Oleg Vadatursky had a meeting with General Director of the Top Hill company Mr. Asif Siddiqui where they werenegotiating a business proposal. The Top Hill is one of the leaders producing kickboxing accessories for the whole world. The two sides agreed that Top Hill would be the official supplier of accessories for IKAS sanctioned events. This is a new step in the history of the IKAS. It is important that Mr. Siddiqui understands all the problems of today's kickboxing. He agreeed with Mr. Vadatursky that kickboxing needs order and that for kickboxing events there must be only one supplier of accessories . The partnership will start in one month once the contracts are signed. Many IKAS officials have positively reacted to this good news. Detailed information on the Top Hill is coming up soon.

Complete report on IKAS event of June 5th

June, 2. Moscow Airport Sheremetyevo – 2. The promoters were meeting the participants of the European Title fight IKAS European Director Mr. Nuno Ferreira and the number one contender for the title Paulo Lourenco and his trainer Miguel Godinho – all of them from Portugal. IKAS President Mr. Oleg Vadatursky was personally meeting the whole party at the Airport. It was a very warm welcome and the guests enjoyed the entertainment program while staying in Moscow.
June, 3. Moscow Airport Sheremetyevo – 2. Arrival of guests from the USA – 3 time world champion Peter Kaljevic and his trainer Auguste Maurepas. The IKAS President was there to meet them. After 40 minutes of nervous waiting in the arrivals section Mr. Vadatursky crossed the customs control line to check what was taking them so long. His worries were soon proved. The customs officer didn’t want to let Peter in as he noticed the difference between the photo in Peter’s passport and real Peter who was standing in front of him. 30 minutes after Mr. Vadatursky explained the situation to the customs officer Peter Kaljevic finally crossed the Russian border. This accident was much spoken about but let’s not forget in what a dangerous world we all live.

June, 4. Moscow Airport Sheremetyevo – 2.
Arrival of IKAS General Director and one of the owners of the IKAS - Mr. Oliver Campbell.

Promoters of the show Mr. Vyacheslav Lapaukh and Russian National League of Kickboxing Director Mr. Oleg Deryabin did everything possible to make staying in Moscow pleasant for the guests.

At 12 PM the whole party moved to the Sheremetyevo -1 Airport to fly to Abakan where the show was to take place.

June, 4. Arrival to Abakan.
The party arrived to Abakan very late at night. However according to the rules there should have been the official weigh-in at that late time. All IKAS officials and the promoter of the show Mr. Vyacheslav Lapaukh were present at the weigh-in. Nickolai Yamolkin (Russia) and Paulo Lourenco (Portugal) were the first pair to weigh. Yamolkin showed 72,200 kg and the same did Lourenco. It’s important to emphasize that IKAS European title in under 72,2 kg was vacant so both fighters were contenders.
Then was the turn of 3-times champion of the world Vladimir “The Russian Machine Gun” Avtamonov and Peter Kaljevic from the USA. Avtamonov showed 68,700 while Kaljevic’s weight was 300 grams heavier than required by the rules. After the consultations with the leaders of IKAS Mr. Campbell and Mr. Vadatursky it was decided to allow Peter Kaljevic to fight because according to IKAS rules the fighter can have an overweight of 300 grams.

After the weigh-in there was an official photographing. After all official formalities everybody went to the restaurant and then to their rooms. For the next day the press-conference with TV and media was planned and it was also the day of the show.

June, 5. 12 PM local time. PRESS-CONFERENCE
Everybody gathered in the press-conference hall of the hotel. There were all the fighters, their trainers and representatives. The Minister of sport of Republic of Khakassia, the deputy of the governor of Khakassia, all the judges and referees were present at the press-conference. Mr. Vadatursky was the main target of the reporters and the main question was why IKAS chose Abakan for such a big show featuring World and European title fights. The Russian national channel was also recording the press-conference and it also broadcasted the whole show in Russia, CIS and Europe. Many questions were fired at Mr. Oliver Campbell and they were mainly concerned with whether he liked Russia and Abakan or not. He answered that there were great and kind-hearted people in Abakan and Russia with a hospitality he had never seen before. Mr. Oleg Deryabin being the supervisor of the show answered the questions regarding the judging. He assured the media that the judging in IKAS was always at the highest level, that nobody was going to forejudge and that only the best would win. He pointed media’s attention to the fact that one of IKAS main objectives was to make a fighter feel calm and comfortable when stepping onto the ring as there would be no judge to forejudge him.

Mr. Vyacheslav Lapaukh answered the questions regarding the organization of the show. He said that many small local officials were sabotaging the organization of the show. He expressed his thanks to the governor of Khakassia Mr. Alexey Lebed. Mr. Lapaukh stressed that the tournament was dedicated to the great and honoured Russian army general, the brother of the governor Alexandr Lebed. IKAS European Director Mr. Nuno Ferreira answered the questions regarding the invited fighters. He emphasized that all the fighters were among top three in their weight categories in the world and that the audience would see a great show. The fighters were laconic. They appreciated the hospitality and the level of organization. Russian fighters were saying that they were at home and it would help them win.

June, 5. 7 PM local time. SHOWTIME. Before the show there were final referee and judge talks where the rules were once again reviewed and the referees for each fight were selected. Mr. Deryabin conducted a seminar for the new judges who sent their applications with the request to join IKAS judge team. IKAS World Judging Coordinator Mr. Konstantin Makarov was also certifying the new judges. After the seminar the representatives of the fighters were invited and got acquainted with all IKAS fighting rules. The Americans had some questions as they wanted to fight with spin backhands which are not allowed by IKAS but are used in the USA and some other federations. They told that they were getting ready to fight with that element. However both the American and the Russian side agreed not to use spin backhands.

The first fight was a 6-round IKAS rating fight featuring the fighter from Abakan Kirill Shiryaev and the fighter from Chelyabinsk Mikhail Letyagin who is the PRO Russian champ and can knock-out both with his hard punch and hard kick. Everybody was betting on Letyagin but Shiryaev won in the beautiful fight with all three judges giving him the victory. The fight was very dynamic and Shiryaev showed spectacular kickboxing combining punches and kicks. The audience provided a warm welcome and support for their native fighter.

The second fight was IKAS PRO Russian National title featuring Kirill’s brother Vitaly and the fighter from Ulianovsk. The first three rounds were equal but Shiryaev like his brother was dominating in kicking technique. The 5th and 6th rounds were the turning point in the fight. Shiryaev was imposing his style of fighting and he was all the time winning at the end of each round. Shiryaev’s side kicks were so powerful that his opponent was suffering after each of them. However it’s necessary to say that Shiryaev’s opponent is amateur champion of the world. Despite such a title Shiryaev performed great and the native city was backing him with support. Vitaly Shiryaev won like his brother did and showed a spectacular action. All the judges gave him the victory and the Russian National title.

The third fight featured Vladislav Sagalakov against the fighter from Ulianovsk. It was 10 rounds IKAS PRO CIS title. Sagalakov’s domination was growing from round to round with his opponent showing some really good pieces of defense. This was the fight in the lightest weight category. That’s why both fighters were very quick and used a lot of spectacular techniques which the audience surely enjoyed. In round 6 Sagalakov knocked down his opponent and the referee began to count. The fighter managed to stand up though and continue fighting. However it was obvious that Sagalakov’s domination will sooner or later result in a victory. All three judges scored it in favour of Sagalakov who became IKAS PRO CIS champion.

Many reporters of the Russian national television were asking for interviews. The main question was why the fighters from Abakan won all three fights and if the judges were judging fairly. A number of questions were answered by the IKAS President Mr. Oleg Vadatursky the rest being left to IKAS General Director Mr. Oliver Campbell. Regarding the judging Mr. Campbell replied that all the fighters were of the highest level and nobody had any doubts concerning the honesty of judging. It’s necessary to stress that those three fights were just the prelude for the upcoming main events of the night. The referee and judges were then changed setting the whole stadium ready for the upcoming European and World titles.

IKAS PRO EUROPEAN TITLE FIGHT
The fight featured the Champion of Portugal Paulo Lourenco and the two-times Champion of Russia and also the champion of CIS Nickolai Yamolkin. Both the media and kickboxing experts were impatiently awaiting this fight. Among the judges for this fight were the main supervisor of the show Mr. Oleg Deryabin, IKAS Judges Coordinator Mr. Konstantin Makarov and Mr. Nuno Ferreira. Alexandr Razumov (Russia) was the referee at ring. All these judges were agreed by the two participating sides. At the beginning of the fight Yamolkin began to attack and Paulo had to switch his style to a defensive one trying to hit back whenever possible. Things went on like this up to round 5. First five rounds were completely dominated by the Russian fighter. Then we saw a different Paulo. He was more aggressive, accurate and began to step forward. Everybody was wondering what did he do to change like this and where he took power to do so. Paulo was widely using his kicks and punches and showed very good kickboxing. Only in round 8 Yamolkin managed to pull himself together and win the round. It was obvious that after round 5 Yamolkin stopped fighting and didn’t show any attacking actions always defending and seldom kicking or punching. 7,000 of spectators were shouting. At the start of round 10 both fighters shaked hands and it was impossible to say for sure who would win.

After the fight before the judges decision both of the fighters raised their hands each proclaiming himself the winner. Then the main supervisor Mr. Deryabin came up to the ring with the judges decision. Being only 3 points ahead Yamolkin won the fight and took hold of IKAS vacant European title. There were however a lot of arguments regarding the fight because the fight was very even and many were saying the Portuguese fighter won as well as many were backing the Russian fighter. However the fight was judged by very qualified officials and the decision made was not changed. This was the final point of that very difficult fight. After the fight Paulo’s trainer Miguel Godinho told he had no concerns about judging but he considered his fighter to win the fight. The same was said by IKAS European Director Mr. Nuno Ferreira. It is always very difficult to choose a winner when the fight is even and that’s why we always have a team of qualified judges who can understand the fight and make a right decision.

And finally here they are coming to the ring! The undefeated 3 times champion of the world Vladimir “The Russian Machine Gun” Avtamonov and 3 times champion of the world Peter Kaljevic (USA). These are the strongest fighters in the world. Kaljevic was not afraid to come and fight with Avtamonov because he is a real professional and champion. As it came out later Kaljevic was injured 2 months prior to the fight but he managed to recover and come to the fight. He is 36 years old and he is an adequate opponent for the “Machine Gun”. In the first round nobody wanted to make fast decisions, both fighters preferred to know each other better and use it in later rounds. The 1st round was even. In the 2nd round Avtamonov found Peter’s weak spots and began his series of rapid and light-speed attacks. Rounds 3 and 4 were full of hard punches and kicks coming from each fighter. Avtamonov however was winning round after round and he seemed to completely dominating the situation. In round 5 Avtamonov was firing his favourite series of punches and kicks at Kaljevic. After round 6 Avtamonov’s series seemed to be in their zenith.

The stadium was shouting with excitement. In round 8 Avtamonov seemed to be told by his trainer to finish the fight. He looked fresh and knocked-down Peter. Nobody would have believed that Peter could stand but he did. He did not stop the fight. Everybody saw that Peter’s trainer Auguste Maurepas was ready to throw the towel on the ring but he did not. Peter continued fighting like the real champion and his spirit of champion helped him to move further. In the next rounds Avtamonov stopped his hard and blowing series of punches and kicks and showed great respect to Kaljevic. He seemed to understand that he could not knock-out Peter. The audience liked this very much. Everybody understands that when great fighters come to the end of their carriers only few of them can say “stop” and leave the world of professional kickboxing. This fight showed that the great fighter Peter Kaljevic needs retirement. He fought all 12 rounds. The main supervisor of the show and IKAS Vice-President Mr. Oleg Deryabin announced Avtamonov’s victory. He is now 4 times PRO champion of the world.

Interview with Vladimir Avtamonov and his manager Konstantin Makarov (left on photo)

Eugene Howard: Mr. Makarov, are you satisfied with Vladimir’s performance?
Mr. Makarov: Of course, I am. I can only say once again that Avtamonov is the best in the world. He is just 24 years old and he is already 4 times champion of the world. Today I do not see any opponent who is worth fighting with him. I was saying this when Vladimir was fighting for IKF and became 2 times champion of the world with IKF. Now he is 2 times IKAS champion of the world. Everybody can only say that they are not afraid of him but in the same time nobody can challenge him and take away his belt. We are now recognized all around the world and I can assure everybody who wishes to take away Avtamonov’s world belt that we are ready to accept any challenge.

EH: Vladimir, are you happy with your performance?
Vladimir: Yes, I am. I think everybody would be happy to become 4 times champion of the world. I would like to use this opportunity to tell on IKAS website that Peter Kaljevic is a real fighter and I greatly respect him. I can only remember the story with another American Jimmy Stewart who was cried he was not afraid of me but did not accept my challenge. I would like also to address Steve Fossum the President of IKF: “You can come and take your piece of iron as I don’t need it! Remember when you deprived me of my title? No fighter could take your iron and plastic belt away from me. Now I proved that I am the only champion in the world. And I can tell you right now Mr. Fossum, if you want to tell me something personally write to my and my manager’s e-mail as you were always trying to avoid talking to me. I will leave my e-mail here straight away.”

EH: Mr. Makarov, what can you say about the performance of your American partner Peter Kaljevic?
Mr. Makarov: I do think he is a true champion. He is a kind-hearted champion and a true warrior. Many people like him here. I wasn’t talking to him too much but it was enough for me to see him at the press-conference and during the fight.
EH: Mr. Makarov, what do you think about Peter’s possible retirement?
Mr. Makarov: I think it’s very right to do so. He is known worldwide as the true professional and honest person. He has got a lot of experience that he collected during his whole life and he can use it and become a very good promoter or trainer. I think each federation would be happy to have him as a friend. He is very honest and keeps his word.

EH: Vladimir, what do you think about the question above?
Vladimir: It’s a great pity for me that I had never fought Peter before. We could have had a series of outstanding fights! Of course the time will come for me to finish with the sport and I think he is making the right decision right now. I will be very happy to see him as my friend.

EH: Vladimir, may be you have some announcement for your fans or for all fighters in the world?
Vladimir: Yes, at first I would like to tell that such a beautiful sport like kickboxing is not so popular in the world. This is because we do not have such super-fighters like me. If there is a true world champion on the planet ready to beat me then come and do it!

Peter Kaljevic's aftermatch words

I'm a World Traveler, but I mostly credit these opportunities to my Sports Career as a Martial Artist. Although I've held several jobs in between fights non can compare. Fighting has always been my number one priority I started when I was only six years old, Like most people I started learning karate and moved on to different styles of fighting as I got older. I now fight more than five different styles of Martial Arts fighting techniques my background style is Maui Thai, Full Contact is another technique of fighting for me it is also known as Kickboxing, Mix Martial Arts is one of my favorite styles of fighting (Maui Thai is the other), then there's San-Shou, and Boxing I have been competing as a professional fighter for 19 years now.

When called to a combat I adjust myself and each different style of fighting in accordance to whom I'm fighting, I take a little something from each technique when necessary and apply it accordingly (it's a very tricky thing to do because with each style of fight there is a different set rules, but the techniques remains similar and sometimes the same. Using this philosophy is what I believe makes me who I'm as a pro fighter, and it also help to keep me very disciplined and focus).

I had plenty of time to prepare for the fight. While doing so I had four fights which I considered to be tune-ups, however two weeks before the scheduled with IKAS I had an accident which resulted in surgery of my left triceps, and tendon. My doctor gave me the bad news when he told me I would not be able to do any straining activities and he put the injured arm in a cast, but with conviction and determination I prevailed. The best thing to do would have been to cancel the fight upon learning of my misfortune, but my love for the sport would not allow me to do that I made the decision of stay focus disregarding my doctors orders I decided to continue with my training. In the worst scenario I figured the best that I could do would be to show up in Russia for the fight with my arm caste up and let the commissioner there make the final decision so that's what I did. (My arm is OK now I have one more therapy session to go & I feel completely healed...Thank God for that).

As promised I would like to have a rematch with my opponent Avtamonov. He is a great fighter the best fighter I've had the opportunity to fight so far he is a respectable fighter with excellent skills, though we fought in the super welter weight division in my opinion I believe he will do great in the middle weight class division which will give him the opportunity to fight more fighters.

I'm considering retirement, and will probably fight a couple more years. I intend on withdrawing from some of the styles that I currently use and focus on maybe one or two (What I mean by that is I may choose to fight one or two different styles i.e. I may choose to fight Mix Martial Arts and/or Boxing or choose Maui Thai, or just go with Full Contact only) I don't know yet.

I would like extend my thanks to the International Kickboxing Association for giving me the opportunity to participate in the last show I enjoyed your hospitality and am glad I had the opportunity to meet all the wonderful people I did & look forward to working with you in the near future.

FINAL WORD
The leaders of IKAS would like to personally thank the governor of the Republic of Khakassia Mr. Alexey Lebed (second left on photo) and the promoter Mr. Vyacheslav Lapaukh (second right on photo) for organizing the show at the highest level. We are glad that we had given the sanction for such a small city. The Board of Directors pointed out the success in Abakan. We are ready to continue working with the governor and Mr. Lapaukh. IKAS President and IKAS General Director were personally meeting with Mr. Lebed at the hospital as he was unwell and could not be present at the show. They thanked him for the great work he did to make the show happen. We all wish Mr. Governor quick recovery. During the meeting the IKAS leaders and Mr. Lebed agreed that Abakan will host the show again next year.

15/05/04 IKAS event

The show took place on May 15th in the city of Olenegorsk, Russia featuring two fights of the night: IKAS PRO Full Contact CIS Title fight in under 66,8 kg and IKAS PRO Full Contact European Title fight in under 58,1 kg. As all the citizens say it was a great honour for their town to host such a massive sport event. We cannot say the event was very well organized though.

IKAS CIS TITLE: KABYLBEK SADIRBAEV VS SPARTAK LAPSANEY
Spartak was great again and showed an outstanding performance with Kabylbek being a tough opponent for him. Spectacular combinations of punches and kicks with all the artistry that Spartak is capable to perform at ring made this fight a must to see. Spartak became IKAS CIS champion in under 66,8 kg after the judges decision had been announced. It was 3:0 to Spartak.

EUROPEAN TITLE: BRUNO CLEMENTE VS ERES SARYGLA
Both fighters delivered a great performance: Eres was more quick but Bruno’s kicks accuracy was outstanding. In the first 3 rounds the fight was even. Then Eres began to gain advantage through his quick attacks. This left no choice for Bruno but to defend until in round 8 his trainer threw out the towel.

24/04/04 IKAS event report

The show scheduled for April 24th was hosted by IKAS Russia representative Mr. Oleg Deryabin. The event featured IKAS exhibition fights between Vladimir “The Russian Machine Gun” Avtamonov of Russia and Danabek Sudjanov of Kazakhstan, PRO Russian National Title fight between Mikhail Letyagin and Faruh Berdyev, PRO CIS Title fight between Nickolai Yamolkin of Russia and Shukhrat Husain-Akhunov of Kazakhstan. A pre-event press conference took place one day prior to the show and was attended by IKAS President Mr. Oleg Vadatursky, NLK (National League of Kickboxing) President Mr. Oleg Deryabin, IKAS Kazakhstan representative Mr. Akan Busurmanov and all the fighters. The main topic for discussion was that of what the show means for the participating fighters. Much attention was given to Vladimir Avtamonov – 3 time world champion who will defend his title on June 5th, 2004. Then followed a weigh-in session that showed each fighters' weight alright.

The show was at the highest level as usual and despite the venue of only 2,000 there were a lot more people.

AVTAMONOV VS SUDJANOV – 8 rounds
The fight began in a very fast tempo with a lot of pressure from Sudjanov and a solid defence by “The Russian Machine Gun”. Avtamonov then turned to attack and showed some really hard, target reaching kicks. He dominated until round 6 when his advantage became complete and resulted in knock-down. Sudjanov then looked very tired and only defended. The fight ended in round 8 with the judges’ decision. All three judges gave Avtamonov the victory.
LETYAGIN VS BERDYEV – 10 rounds
The fight was equal for the first four rounds. Berdyev was on the floor in round 6 after a hard kick that hit his jaw. However he was able to continue the fight until he was knocked-down again in the next round but managed to stand up. At the start of round 8 Letyagin delivered a powerful and quick combination of left hook – right jab – right kick. That was a knock-out and Letyagin successfully defended his Russian National Title.
YAMOLKIN VS HUSAIN-AKHUNOV – 10 rounds
The fight started with a powerful strikes exchange. In round 2 Husain-Akhunov was knocked-down after a quick combination by Yamolkin. He stood up. Rounds 2 and 3 were completely dominated by Yamolkin but Husain-Akhunov managed to stand. In round 5 Husain-Akhunov was knocked-down again and his right eye was cut. He showed a great fighting spirit and stood up. Noone would have thought that Husain-Akhunov would continue fighting in round 6 because his right eye was bleeding and left eye was shut. However Shukhrat stood up with the sign of the timekeeper. Yamolkin began to attack straight away and Husain-Akhunov was knocked-out by a series of hard punches and kicks. Yamolkin added the CIS Title to his collection and that gave him the right to fight for IKAS European title on June 5th.

The show will take place in Russia and is arranged by IKAS official representative in Russia and Asia Mr. Oleg Deryabin. Our attention will be drawn mostly to the fights of Vladimir Avtamonov and Nickolai Yamolkin as a newcomer of the kickboxing promotions market the British IKO Group is negotiating the deal to purchase both fighters. For Yamolkin this will be the chance to win a higher rank title as he is already the champion of Russia and it will also be a great chance for him to show himself in his best in view of the possible promoter change. For “The Russian Machine Gun” this will be primarily the preparation fight for his upcoming IKAS World Title. If both fighters succeed to put up worthy performance the IKO Group will offer them contracts with one of the satellite televisions to broadcast their fights.

IKAS event report

The first ever IKAS event, staged recently by IKAS Iran representative Mr. Yousefali Darvishi, was very exciting and interesting. It got together 193 amateur fighters from the whole Islamic Republic of Iran. All fighters tried to do their best and that made the championship a very spectacular show to see. The chairman of the physical education department of Kashan, where the event took place, personally supervised the tournament. This fact by no means shows that the highest authorities of Iran make efforts for the physical development of the Iranian young generation. Here are some pictures taken at the fight venue.

The IKAS team extends thanks to Mr. Yoursefali Darvish for doing the hard work and for this small yet important part he has added up to the IKAS whole.

Show postponed due to visa denials

The event, hosted by IKAS Russia representative Mr. Oleg Deryabin, that should have taken place on February 28th, 2004 has been postponed (date to be announced later). The reason for that is that a major part of the participants have not received their Russia entry visas. However, the promoters are doing all they can to make the show happen at all costs. Just a bit later. As you probably already know, the show will feature the IKAS European title fight in under 58,1 kg and the IKAS CIS title fight in 66,8 kg. The two contenders for the CIS title are Kabylbek “Shal” Sadirbaev of Kazakhstan and Spartak Lapsaney of Russia. Sadirbaev is WPKA amateur champion of the world, WAKO Asian amateur champion and professional Asian WPKA champion. Lapsaney is known for the show in October 2003 where he became the professional champion of Russia. Hopefully, the visas issue will be solved very soon and we see that exciting show.

IKAS IRAN

We would like to officially congratulate IKAS representative in Iran and the Middle East Mr. Yousefali Darvishi on successful beginning of the new year with his Amateur National Championship in the I.R. of Iran. This huge event that was hosted in Esfehan province of Iran gathered together 193 fighters from all around Iran. We are glad that Mr. Darvishi organized such a huge tournament that surely helped to promote kickboxing in Iran and in the whole Middle East. It is very important to give a chance to younger and less experienced fighters to show themselves at tournaments like this. We are very glad to see that Mr. Darvishi is doing everything possible to create a strong basis for future development of kickboxing in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Dear Mr. Darvishi we all wish you good luck and future success working with the IKAS!

The championship took place on January 22nd-23rd in the Esfehan Province of Islamic Republic of Iran. 193 amateur fighters took part in the championship. The official report on this event is coming up soon.

IKAS Lightweight European title fight confirmed

It will be a fight that by no means is awaited by thousands of kickboxing fans. At last IKAS official representative in Russia Mr. Oleg Deryabin (left) confirmed the event will take place on February 28th, 2004. The contenders for the vacant IKAS Lightweight title are Bruno Clemente of Portugal (right), PRO-AM IKAS European champion and Eres Sarygla of Russia, runner-up of the amateur world championship and a PRO champion of Russia. IKAS official representative in Portugal and the promoter of Bruno Clemente Mr. Nuno Ferreira will visit this show in Russia. At first the event's date was questionable as the Russian fighter got seriously injured. However he is fine now and ready for the battle. Both fighters are good enough to win the European title in under 58,1 kg. So just one month is left before one more IKAS title will be won. As far as you all know IKAS is carrying out huge work to choose only the best fighters to compete for its vacant titles. We will wait until February, 28 and let the best win the IKAS European Champion Belt. This event will screened worldwide by the satellite 7TV channel. We believe it is very important to pull all the efforts together to make it interesting and profitable for television to broadcast kickboxing fights of a high level. We hope to see all kickboxing fans at this Russia VS Portugal show.
